Hedeby Viking Museum

In Viking times Hedeby (German: Haithabu) used to be one of the most important settlements in the north of Europe. The Hedeby Viking Museum near Schleswig exhibits numerous artefacts from archaeological excavations.

In the big ship's hall you will find a longship which was discovered in the harbour of Hedeby. The medieval city of Hedeby used to be a pulsating early trading place built in a historical semicircle. Since 2005 findings have been used to reconstruct dwellings in their original positions.
The Viking museum Hedeby is located in the south banks of the river Schlei at a place called Haddebyer Noor.
Amongst other activities the museum offers guided tours explaining both the finished and yet unfinished reconstructions of the houses.
